RMRK TIME WARP!

Posted: February 04, 2010, 11:52:46 PM by Zylos

Should be obvious to most people by now, but in case you haven't noticed, RMRK HAS GONE BACK IN TIME!

That's right, RMRK did a rollback. There was an unexplainable error that caused issues for a lot of people whenever they tried to view a thread. So, Roph decided to go the safe route and revert to a backup of the site from February 1st. What caused the error is still being looked at, but the fact remains that all the posts made from February 1st till the rollback moment were deleted. However, Roph does daily backups of almost everything, so they can still be recovered from a mirror site and reposted if you wish. Feel free to PM Roph or any moderator if you have any posts that you would like to have restored, though please keep in mind that time is not unlimited and no one wants to waste theirs recovering a spam or trivial post.

The big news is that Crankeye now features a Resource Gallery that is currently accepting submissions! It is an excellent way to share your resources and you are encouraged to post your permission to have it added to the new gallery. Lots of new resources that aren't in the Databases are in the new gallery, so be sure to take a look!

I am looking for anyone interested in taking over and possibly redesigning the community newsletter, at least until the summer. Obligations for school are catching up with me.

Redefined Resource Section: A Universe of Possibilities

Posted: January 28, 2010, 08:55:14 PM by Irock

We'll admit, it's no secret that the Crankeye resource section was a bit outdated and lacking in content. However, we plan to change the way you look at this section. Resources are, and always will be an important part of RMRK; we are the RPG Maker Resource Kit, after all.

If you visit the Resource section right now, you'll notice a few major changes.

  • Better Organized - Each RPG Maker program has its own directory, and each program directory has its own set of specific resource directories.
  • Out with the old content, in with the new - All content added to the resource section will be authorized by the original author, and credit will be given if they desire.
  • Audio is in - The resource section will now feature audio. You'll see both music and sounds.

We're Looking for Contributions

RMRK is a community driven website, and we rely on you for the content. That's why we're turning to you for resources. The new resource section is a universe of possibilities, but it can only become what the community lets it become.

Already, we have recieved contributions from Grafikal, Hyptosis, DeathLock, and myself. We hope to see this list grow.

If you have created any RPG Maker resources or music that you'd like to contribute, visit this topic to make your contribution. You'll receive full credit for your work. Any contribution is much appreciated.

While it says New Projects, it does not refer to the new projects section itself. Rather, this section is for highlighting new games that came in this month that have met the requirements to be moved into the regular projects board.

Want to Help?

I am looking for anyone interested in writing a new Community Update section, and any Non-RMVX Game Maker News sections of the Newsletter. If you are interested and have a suitable knowledge of any of those areas, please volunteer in this topic and I will select whoever I think is best suited for the job. Also, if you can think of any other section or subsection that you'd like to write and that you think would make sense to be included in the newsletter, then feel free to suggest it.

Happy Holidays From RMRK!

Posted: December 24, 2009, 01:28:06 PM by Roph

It's now December 25th in some areas, so now we can post this Smiley

Happy Christmas, Xmas, Solstice, Bloody cold evening to you! Congratulations if you're allowed to open a present early on the eve; I was never allowed to do this

Something important that you mustn't be distracted from at any time of year though is security, in this case online. It's come to our attention that at least one member has received scam/phishing emails claiming to be official emails from RMRK, asking for account details. These are completely bogus; RMRK would never send these types of emails, and if there was any problem with your account, an administrator would not require your password to deal with it. Never reveal your account details to anybody, not even somebody from RMRK - again, somebody with the proper staff authority to administrate your account does not need your password.

There are also a few surprises here for everyone, which some sharp eyed members actually might not be so surprised about - promotions Smiley. In no specific order:

I'm sure anybody who has any knowledge of LadyJules would agree that she is definitely worthy of getting on the first rung of the ladder - she is now an RMRK mod. What would RMRK's de facto mom be without any authority?

Second is grafikal. Anyone who's been a member more than a few days should be familiar with his contributions. He's previously managed specific RPG Maker only forums very well, so the next logical step is obviously for him to go green Kiss

And then by no means at all least we have the boy genius modern algebra. If you're reading this from the homepage, you need only scroll down for an example of his great monthly roundup posts, but there is so much more beyond that that he has done to better RMRK, this actually seems quite overdue. Modern Algebra now joins the ranks of the Administrators.

Congrats everybody, and happy holidays Grin

The 2009 RMRK Awards are now over, time to see the results!

Posted: December 16, 2009, 12:52:52 PM by Roph

I can't believe we've now done 4 of these awards - I still remember starting the first one.

The polls have now closed, all the votes have been counted, and the results for every poll have been organized into the results thread here; have a look Smiley

Some results are surprising, others predictably not. Congratulations Arlen, no matter the hardships that may befall you on your adventures, you may rest assured you always have an affectionate place in the hearts of RMRK's userbase.

RMRK Guilds 2010

Posted: December 06, 2009, 01:16:21 PM by HaloOfTheSun

Everyone is invited to participate in the RMRK Guilds - a number of teams competing to make the better RPG Maker game.

It's still early, so there is plenty of time to sign up! No starting date has been set yet and many of the rules and procedures are still being discussed. If you have an opinion or suggestion then now is the time to let us know.

This is a community event so everyone is welcome to join - just post here letting us know what your RPG Maker skills are and whether you'd like to be considered for the position of Guild Leader.

EDIT: Sign-ups are lasting until Monday the 14th. The competition will start January 2nd, 2010.
